“If a great writer is a poet, then Smokey Robinson is a miracle.”
It is undeniable: Smokey Robinson’s legacy is unparalleled, his influence far-reaching, and he has touched the hearts of millions. The legendary singer, songwriter, and producer founded the pioneering Motown vocal group, The Miracles, while still in school. In late 1960, the group recorded their first single, “Shop Around”, becoming Motown’s first number-one hit on the R&B singles chart. Between 1960 and 1970 alone, Smokey Robinson produced 26 top forty hits with The Miracles, such as “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me”, “I Second That Emotion”, and the number one hit, “The Tears of a Clown”.
Smokey Robinson was also one of the major songwriters for Motown, penning hit singles such as “Two Lovers” and “My Guy” for Mary Wells, “My Girl” and “Since I Lost My Baby” for The Temptations, “The Hunter Gets Captured by the Game” and “My Baby Must Be a Magician” for The Marvelettes, and “I’ll Be Doggone” and “Ain’t That Peculiar” for Marvin Gaye.
The living legend has an illustrious solo career with multiple chart toppers such as “The Tracks of My Tears” and “Being with You”. Smokey Robinson has racked up many awards, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and inductions into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. He is the recipient of a National Medal of Arts and a second star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as a member of The Miracles.
The Soulfully Yours Tour promises to take the audience into the intimate world of Smokey Robinson, reliving the classics and discovering new dimensions through the velvety voice that hasn't aged a single day, poetic lyrics, larger-than-life stage presence, emotional depth, storytelling and the power of song.
