Foretold by the prophecies of Fate, the fires of hell will rage and roar as Anaïs Mitchell’s Tony Award-winning Hadestown embarks on its 2024 North American tour, presenting an exciting new cast of today’s brightest stars! Following a Chrysler Hall appearance to conclude the first quarter of the year, seven stops will remain on the tour’s itinerary, which includes a six-day stint from April 23 to 28 at the Wang Theatre of Boston’s Boch Center.

Behold, a Greek legend reborn into the lights of Broadway, reimagined into a timeless critique of the capitalist machine through a story of romantic tragedy.

Faced with a crippling famine and a looming winter, bright-eyed aspirant Orpheus dreams of composing a song that will herald the return of spring. He then meets Eurydice, who, despite initial trepidations, begins a budding romance with the young artist, all while searching for a means to resolve their growing poverty. Reality struck like a bitter gale. And it hounded her as the Fates sang of an escape. Lured into temptation, Eurydice departs for Hadestown, a subterranean factory that promises safety and security — but not without their price.

“Utterly fabulous. Rachel Chavkin is fearlessly innovative.” – Hollywood Reporter

Join Orpheus and descend into an industrial underworld in order to save a love gone astray! Directed by Drama Desk Award winner Rachel Chavkin, with book, music, and lyrics written by singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell, the realm of Hadestown comes alive with the vibrancy of a vivid nightmare through wickedly stylish costumes and exquisitely rendered set pieces. Listen to a GRAMMY Award-winning score inspired by classic New Orleans jazz and American folk roots, featuring prismatic numbers such as “Road to Hell,” “Wait for Me,” and “All I’ve Ever Known,” in two and a half hours of a fiendishly astounding sung-through musical.

Described as a “DIY theater project,” Hadestown’s original production made a 2006 debut in Mitchell’s home state of Vermont, which was followed by a tour to Massachusetts a year later in 2007 and a concept album in 2010. It then moved Off-Broadway in 2016 at the New York Theatre Workshop with expanded dialogue and 15 new songs, enjoying widespread popular demand that would launch two more replicas: one in Edmonton, Alberta, and a second in London.

“Spellbinding. Hadestown, for a while, makes the whole world forget its troubles.” – Variety

It clinched eight wins at the 73rd Annual Tony Awards, including Best Original Score and Best Musical, in addition to several more from the Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle. Since then, the production has spawned a year-long South Korean run as well as a still ongoing North American tour and West End series.

THE CAST

In an interview with South Florida Sun Sentinel, Fate One actor Hannah Schreer shared her thoughts on what makes Hadestown relatable: “The politics of the show; the discussion of climate change; the discussion of capitalism; the music, the folk-esque blues style that Anaïs Mitchell has created. It’s an album that you can listen to on your morning walk, or the music that you can listen to while watching the show front-row center.”
